This recipe is a take on boxed Au Gratin potatoes, except these are much better!

The fact that they are made on the stove top also makes them perfect for holidays when oven space is at a premium!

Stove Top Au Gratin Potatoes

Ingredients

1 Tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ cup milk
3 cups potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8” thick
1 cup water
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

1.  Combine cornstarch, salt, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder; whisk into milk until combined.

2.  Combine milk mixture and remaining ingredients in a medium saucepan or skillet.  Bring to a boil.  Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender, stirring occasionally (sauce will be thin).

3. Allow to stand 5 minutes before serving.  Sauce will thicken upon standing.

Makes 4 1-cup servings

Slice potatoes 1/8" thick
Combine spices
