Homemade Dinner Rolls Recipe – Soft, Fluffy & Easy to Freeze
These Homemade Rolls are soft, fluffy, and perfectly golden—just like the ones from Bob Evans that everyone loves! They bake together in the pan, making them extra tender and buttery.
This recipe makes two pans of rolls, so you can enjoy one now and freeze the other for later. To reheat, just thaw the rolls on the counter and warm in the oven for about 10 minutes at 350°F. Perfect for holidays, Sunday dinners, or anytime you want fresh, homemade bread without the fuss!
Ingredients:
-
3 ½ to 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
-
¼ cup sugar
-
¼ cup cooking oil (vegetable or canola)
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 package regular or quick-acting yeast
-
1 cup warm water (120°–130°F)
-
1 egg
-
¼ cup butter, melted and divided
Directions:
-
Mix the Dough:
In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm water, oil, and egg. Beat on low speed for 1 minute, then medium for another minute. Stir in just enough remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle. -
Knead the Dough:
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic, adding flour as needed to prevent sticking. -
Let It Rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size. (Dough is ready if an indentation remains when touched.) -
Shape the Rolls:
Grease the bottoms and sides of two 9-inch round cake pans. Punch down the dough and divide it in half. Cut each half into 8 pieces and shape into balls. Arrange close together in the pans. Brush with 2 tablespoons melted butter. -
Final Rise:
Cover and let rise again in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled. -
Bake to Perfection:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 12–18 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with remaining melted butter before serving.
Tips:
-
Make Ahead: Freeze one pan of rolls after baking and reheat later.
-
Serving Suggestion: These rolls pair beautifully with soups, stews, or a holiday dinner spread!
