Homemade Shake 'n Bake Coating Mix
Skip the box and make your own Shake 'n Bake at home. This easy DIY breading mix tastes just like the classic store version, but with simple pantry ingredients and no mystery additives. It coats pork chops beautifully for a crispy, golden crust. Make a batch, store it in two packets, and you’ve got quick weeknight dinners ready to go whenever the craving hits.
Ingredients
-
1 cup breadcrumbs
-
¼ cup all-purpose flour
-
1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1 teaspoon paprika
-
½ teaspoon onion powder
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder
-
½ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
-
Add all ingredients to a food processor. Pulse until the mix is fully combined and fine in texture.
-
Divide into 2 quart-size freezer bags. Store sealed in a cool, dry pantry until ready to use.
How to Use
-
Preheat oven to 425°F.
-
Moisten 4 to 8 pork chops (bone-in or boneless, about ½-inch thick).
-
Place one chop at a time in a bag with the coating mix and shake to coat evenly. Discard bag and leftover mix once done.
-
Arrange chops on an ungreased or foil-lined baking sheet.
-
Bake 15 minutes without flipping or covering. Let stand 3 minutes before serving.
Makes enough seasoning for up to 16 pork chops (equivalent to one store-bought box with 2 pouches)
