Easy Meatloaf Recipe with Onion Soup Mix and Gravy

If you’re looking for the best homemade meatloaf recipe, this one is a family favorite! Made with ground beef, onion soup mix, and breadcrumbs, this classic comfort food is moist, flavorful, and topped off with a rich gravy made from the pan drippings. Forget the ketchup—this savory meatloaf with gravy is the only recipe you’ll ever need.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef

  • 1 packet (or 1 homemade recipe) onion soup mix

  • ¾ cup bread crumbs

  • 2 large eggs

  • ¾ cup water

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon browning sauce (like Kitchen Bouquet)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Meatloaf

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, eggs, and water. Mix gently until just combined—don’t overmix.

  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a loaf pan.

  4. Bake uncovered for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

Step 2: Make the Gravy from Pan Drippings

  1. Remove the meatloaf from the pan and cover to keep warm. Strain the pan juices into a measuring cup. Skim off the fat, reserving 3 tablespoons. Add water if needed to make 2 cups of liquid.

  2. In a saucepan, whisk the flour into the pan juices until smooth. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

  3. Remove from heat and stir in the browning sauce.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this juicy meatloaf with gravy alongside creamy mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or buttered corn for the ultimate comfort meal.
