Easy Homemade Calzone Recipe (with Meatballs or Your Favorite Pizza Toppings)

If you love pizza, you’ll love this easy calzone recipe! Calzones are basically folded pizzas stuffed with gooey mozzarella, savory sauce, and your favorite fillings. I like to make them after spaghetti and meatballs night to use up leftover meatballs and sauce, but you can customize them with any classic pizza toppings—pepperoni, sausage, veggies, or even extra cheese.

These calzones are perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, game day snack, or even meal prepping since they reheat beautifully.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a large baking sheet.

  2. Prepare dough: Divide pizza dough in half. Roll each piece into a 12-inch circle and place on the baking sheet.

  3. Add filling: Place 5 meatballs on one half of each dough circle. Top with ½ cup sauce and 1 cup mozzarella.

  4. Fold & seal: Fold dough over filling to create a half-moon shape. Seal edges by pinching or pressing with a fork. Brush tops with oil and cut a small slit to vent steam.

  5. Bake: Cook for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Slice each calzone into 3 wedges.

Serves: 2–3

Tips for the Best Homemade Calzones

  • Swap meatballs for pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, or spinach.

  • Use store-bought dough for convenience or try a homemade pizza dough recipe.

  • Serve with extra marinara or garlic butter for dipping.
