Easy Beer Battered Fish (Crispy Homemade Fish & Chips)

If you love classic Fish & Chips, this Easy Beer Battered Fish recipe delivers that perfectly crisp coating and tender, flaky fish—made right at home! The batter comes together in minutes, and you can use any beer you enjoy drinking for rich flavor and light texture.

If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, simply swap the beer for club soda for the same crispy results.

For best frying results, a candy thermometer helps ensure your oil stays at the right temperature. Serve your golden, crunchy fish with fries, Easy Homemade Coleslaw, and Easy Homemade Tartar Sauce for the ultimate comfort meal!

Beer Battered Fish Recipe

Ingredients

  • Cooking oil (vegetable or canola)

  • 1 lb. cod fillets, cut into 8 pieces

  • 1 ½ cups Homemade Bisquick

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 cup beer

  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Heat the oil:
Pour 2–3 inches of oil into a deep pot and heat to 375°F. (If you don’t have a thermometer, aim for medium-high heat.)

  2. Mix the batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together Homemade Bisquick, the beaten egg, beer, and salt until smooth.

  3. Batter and fry:
Dip each fish piece into the batter, then fry a few at a time for about 5 minutes, or until golden brown. The fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork.

  4. Drain and serve:
Place cooked fish on a paper-towel-lined plate to drain. Keep finished pieces warm while frying the rest.

Makes 4 servings
