Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe (with Skins)
If you love classic mashed potatoes but want a little extra flavor, these garlic mashed potatoes with skins are the perfect side dish! Creamy, buttery, and packed with subtle garlic taste, this recipe is simple to make and always a crowd-pleaser. The potatoes are boiled and mashed with their skins on for a rustic, “smashed potato” texture that pairs beautifully with any meal.
Ingredients
-
1 ½ pounds russet potatoes, cut into 1-inch chunks (skins left on)
-
3 cloves garlic, chopped
-
½ cup milk
-
¼ cup butter
-
½ teaspoon salt
-
Dash of ground black pepper
Instructions
-
In a large pot, boil the potatoes and chopped garlic for 20–25 minutes, or until the potatoes are very tender. Drain well.
-
Return potatoes to the pot and shake over low heat to remove excess moisture.
-
Mash the potatoes (they will stay slightly chunky from the skins).
-
Slowly add the milk, mashing after each addition until you reach your desired creaminess.
-
Stir in the butter, salt, and black pepper until the butter is melted and everything is well combined.
Serving Size
Makes about 6 servings — perfect for family dinners, holiday gatherings, or as a side dish to your favorite meal!
